Are you ready to meet the most curious creature that torments South American tourists during lunch? Or perhaps join us for an unexpected celebrity sighting? Better yet, prepare yourself for what can only be described as a visual nirvana. We’re about to dive into all of that and more.
A Turbulent Start
Our adventure on the Brazil/Argentina border kicked off with a bit of chaos. Picture this: our tour guide drops us off at the entrance to Iguazu National Park in Argentina and disappears with our passports and belongings. Cue the drama!
We didn’t know where he was, hopefully he comes back because my passport is in his car and so are a lot of other things. Great way to start the day. Thankfully, crisis averted—the guide returned, passports in hand, and we were finally on our way to witness what many tout as the most beautiful waterfalls in the world.
Journey to the Falls
Navigating through the crowds, we embarked on a jungle train ride towards our destination—Heaven on Earth. As we chugged along, let’s delve into a few facts about this UNESCO World Heritage site, comprising two national parks split between Argentina and Brazil.
Our first stop on this tour of arguably the most mesmerizing waterfalls in the world is a place with a menacing name – the Devil’s Throat.
Approaching the Majesty
Originally planning to get up close and personal with the Devil’s Throat via boat, we faced disappointment due to low water levels. So be sure to check on that before your visit. Nevertheless, we pressed on, walking the catwalk towards one of the most awe-inspiring sights we’ve ever encountered.
Now just know, you’re gonna get wet. The sound of the water getting louder with every step you take. The mile and a half walk is a great way to naturally build anticipation as you head to this unbelievable sight.
If you plan to do this, be prepared to check in advance, as flooding has been know to wash away the walkway and cause closures.
The Grand Revelation
Suddenly, in the distance, mist began rising from the river floor, heralding the thunderous sound of 62,000 cubic feet of water plummeting per second. And then, there it was—like a revelation—Iguazu Falls.
This place is truly breathtaking. Literally. It takes your breath away. The sheer magnitude of the falls, the deafening roar, and the sweet taste of mist—it’s an experience beyond words.
Beyond Expectations
Of the 275 waterfalls at Iguazu, 14 form a horseshoe shape at the Devil’s Throat, creating a spectacle that defies exaggeration.
As we’re here we kept having the same thought. You know you hear about Victoria Falls and Niagara, but you didn’t really even know about Iguazu and you really should. This place is awesome.
Welcome to the grand finale of our Brazilian escapade, where every step leads us closer to nature’s most magnificent masterpiece—the awe-inspiring Iguazu Falls. Join us as we descend through verdant trails, winding down to river level, 30 stories beneath the falls. Here lies an experience that defies imagination.
Panoramic Paradise
Pause for a moment and behold this breathtaking panorama. From the thunderous cascades plunging into the river below to the misty ridges and vibrant rainbows stretching across the sky—this is nature at its finest. Let the scenery speak as we immerse ourselves in the majesty of Iguazu Falls.
It can not be said enough how cool it is. Even on quieter days, the sight is overwhelmingly impressive, reminiscent of a scene straight out of a cinematic masterpiece yet surprisingly serene without the usual hustle and bustle. The secret’s out—visit Iguazu Falls before the world catches on!
Capturing Memories
From the lower panoramic viewing platform, you can head indoors to a nearby building, whisked upwards by a quaint elevator to an outdoor platform. Here, you stand in awe once more at the Devil’s Throat, where the waters converge in a breathtaking display of raw power and beauty.
The Mischievous Visitors
As we crossed into Iguazu National Park on the Brazilian side, we were greeted not only by a new perspective of the falls but also by some unexpected local residents—the South American coatis. These raccoon-like creatures added a touch of mischief as they raided trash cans and roamed the picnic areas, leaving tourists amused and slightly wary.
Our encounter with these quirky creatures marked the end of our journey. With hearts full of wonder and memories etched in our minds, it was time to bid farewell to Iguazu Falls—a place that had exceeded every expectation.
A Sensational Conclusion
TLC may have warned against chasing waterfalls, but we’ve chosen to defy that advice, embracing every moment at one of the wonders of the world. Nestled on the border of Argentina and Brazil, Iguazu Falls is truly a South American sensation—a destination begging to be explored.
As we reflect on our adventure, one thing is certain: Iguazu Falls is not just a destination; it’s an unforgettable experience that calls you back time and again. So pack your sense of wonder and embark on your own journey to witness the raw beauty of one of the world’s greatest natural wonders.
